Logo Process Presentation

Below is an overview of my logo design process that I have worked on in the last few week.

Final 2 Logos

Image
After customer testing the logos, collecting information from my fellow students, and following the vision that I have for Burning Barrel, I have nailed it down to two final logos. Below are color studies of the two logos that we most favored. The design above plays off of a more handcrafted style, developing a cleaver logo that combines the barrel and pig into one shape with the loose flame above. The red and orange colors are favored for this design. This will offer a more relaxed branding system, allowing for that true souther style. The above design, favored in the red color, brings a more modern, clean feeling to the logo. This combines the same elements as the other logo, just in a line art style. This will offer branding that is cleaner, use of repetitive patterning, and use any of the logo elements individually or as a whole. Out of these two designs, I am favoring the second one due to the fact that the branding style will be more timeless than the rugged logo. Whi...

Logo Iteration 2

Image
This week I worked on revising and condensing my logo designs for the Burning Barrel. Below are a selection of logos that have been considered using or are sought to be further explored. Each logo has a dark and light color view, and focus on exploring color, layout, type and logo choice.       Follow up to see more logo exploration, revisions, condensing, as well as a final logo within the next few weeks.

Logo Iteration 1

Image
Based on the sketches, I began to create digital iterations and exploration of the logo marks and lockups. Below are some some the designs and a screenshot of my dartboard to see in to my process.  I wanted to create multiple variations of the logos. Some designs get a more rugged, handcrafted feel, while others tend to look more simplified, sleek and modern. What are your guys thoughts on my logos? Watch for my next post to see the my second iteration of these logos.

Name Development and Logo Sketches

Image
While naming the company I wanted to create a strong theme that the restaurant could grasp onto. Rather than going with something like Jim's BBQ, I sought to find a name that connected with the company and their process. Some names that were at the top of my naming list were Cue Logic, Fancy Porker, Proper Porker, Bootleggers BBQ, and Cue Town. The name that was at the top of our list and did the best when testing the names with a focus group was Burning Barrel Barbecue & Bourbon. The company name, Burning Barrel Barbecue & Bourbon, was chosen due that he fact that the client loved the idea of creating a restaurant theme with the very barrels that their bourbon is made in. Additionally, the idea of using the wood from those barrels to start their grills and smokers could create a unique story for the company to connect with their customers. My design process started with the development of some logo sketches for Burning Barrel Barbecue & Bourbon. My inspiration drew...

Mood Boards

Part of the research portion of this project was to create mood boards based on the companies desired style. Below are some mood boards that I put together.

Project Proposal

The Problem: A new client has contacted me to create an entire branding and packaging system for his BBQ restaurant, which specializes in its offering of signature southern barbecue sauces and bourbon. Deliverables: Create the entire brand identity for the company, including: • Company name • Logo • Brand materials (print materials, food basket wraps, signage examples, wall murals…) Develop a packaging system for their signature barbecue sauces. Develop a packaging system for their bourbon line. Optional: Utilize the newly developed brand to create advertisements for  the food and purchasable sauces and bourbon. The Style: The client is seeking the brand to have a deep southern influence, with close ties  to bourbon/liquor and barbecue industry.
